- Not Ideal for Multiple Cards. Aluminum foil acts like a mini-Faraday cage, blocking RFID signals. It is relatively effective when a single card is completely covered. - Frequency Limitation. While RFID cards can block HF signals (13.56 MHz), it barely has any effect on UHF (860-960 MHz) signals. If you want to successfully block UHF, you will need a thicker aluminum foil layer and complete enclosure.
- Difficult to Use for Large Events. While the aluminum foil technique is effective when using a single card, it is not viable for event organizers to manage hundreds of attendees.
With these limitations, you should consider using more fool-proof approaches such as buying cards, wristbands, lanyards, and other items with ready-made security features. These are made to ensure full enclosure and stronger protection against interceptors.

If you must use aluminum foil as your DIY RFID shield, you can do the following to improve its effectiveness:
- Double Check to Ensure Full Enclosure. Your success with aluminum foil RFID-blocking depends on how well you cover your cards. First, you should wrap them individually with a new foil (avoid re-using). Ensure that there are no gaps or exposed edges.
- Layered Foil Insert. You can cut several aluminum foil sheets and stack them together. You can then place them inside your wallet and keep your cards inside them. They will act as a thicker barrier/divider between card slots, thus offering better shielding.
